Zen in Ireland

The Irish Zen Group has been active since 1991 and has three practice centres (dojos), in Galway, Dublin and Cork.

We focus on the practice of zazen (sitting meditation), and we are open to everyone interested in taking up the practice of meditation.

We practice according to the Soto Zen tradition, as transmitted by the monk Taisen Deshimaru, who brought Zen from Japan to Europe in 1967. Deshimaru was a disciple of Kodo Sawaki.

Alain Liebmann is the leader of our group. A Zen monk with 35 years experience of meditation, he is one of Deshimaru's original disciples.
